The opening of the charity exhibition for the Rakovina věc veřejná foundation was held in the beautiful Fluidum restaurant in Prague 3 on Wednesday. The exhibition will be held until 23 December 2009, presenting the works of the following three Czech artists: Pavel Grégr, Martin Paladin and Ondřej Růžička. Quite unconventionally, here is the account of the event by one of its visitors:
From the moment I entered the restaurant, I was aware of a pleasant yet melancholy atmosphere. No wonder. I know only too well that cancer is not the merriest of topics. Honza Musil definitely contributed to this atmosphere, acting as a guide during the opening. He was not solely a moderator, but also someone who knows that cancer is a disease that does not respect persons, it can affect young and old, rich and poor. He welcomed all the guests in his natural and friendly way, and presented the main aims of the charity exhibition. All the works exhibited here are for sale, and in addition, one of the paintings by Pavel Grégr will be sold at an auction in the course of the exhibition. The starting price is CZK 12,000. A great idea, especially at Christmas time. I began making my choice right away. I'm going to buy one of the paintings. I don't know which one, but I have two favourites. It will make a perfect Christmas gift for my mother, who is also fighting cancer. It will make her happy and, at the same time, help support research, thus giving hope to other patients.
I have great admiration for one particular guest at the exhibition opening, MUDr. Petr Dubák, Ph.D., who described the foundation's work in some detail, mentioning its current projects and particularly the world-famous success in developing Olomoucin, a new and effective medication. The only thing I want to add here is my thanks to all those involved.
Vlaďka Erbová, a well-known model, came to the opening at the last moment. Apart from her real beauty, I felt that strong force radiating from her which she had to find within herself when fighting this disease.
So I would like to thank all the people who are not afraid of sharing their feelings and experiences relating to the battle against this malign disease. They convey hope to others. My thanks also go to the artists, who have given their support to this worthy project. Personally, I hope that the exhibition will generate as much funding as possible to save further lives.
I would therefore like to cordially invite all of you to the exhibition.
