STAR Czech successfully presents its services, and the software of the STAR Group, at the 52nd International Engineering Fair in Brno

At the 52nd International Engineering Fair in Brno, STAR Czech s.r.o., the member of the STAR Group for the Czech and Slovak Republics, made its usual appearance, presenting its translation services and software.

I am proud of the fact that one of the largest engineering fairs in Europe and the largest such specialised fair in the region takes place in the Czech Republic. Our presence at the fair has been a very successful one for us again this year”, says STAR Czech’s manager László Jankovics, MSc.

This year, visitors to the company’s exhibition stand were able to meet a robot that used humour to familiarise them with STAR’s effectiveness at processing foreign-language texts and making repeated use of such translated texts. “The robot was humorously explaining that we are able to use the translated texts again in the customer’s subsequent projects so that automatic suggestions by the Transit software do not diminish the quality of the text as a whole. The software simply presents the text to the translator - it does not insert it directly at the appropriate location. Consequently, the translator has permanent control over the quality of his/her job”, continues Mr Jankovics, adding that the texts are never combined across individual customers, as new partners may sometimes believe. “For many reasons, the texts cannot be used for other customers’ orders. The major reason is terminology. Every company has its own range of technical terms which are often rather different. Another reason is our commitment to keeping the content of customers’ documents confidential. Within the STAR Group, we often translate for companies within the same sector, and it is unthinkable that we would combine different customers’ documents in any way”, explains Mr Jankovics.

As you would expect, STAR’s translation software Transit NXT was on display at the exhibition stand. It works using “fuzzy logics” and translation memory. Visitors were also able to become acquainted with other applications that facilitate work with multilingual texts, as well as other services, e.g. professional proofreading of one’s own translation. “We do not insist on translating all texts ourselves. Many of our partners have their own in-house translators. Sometimes it can happen that the translator is not completely sure about the accuracy of their translation, or about the language style. In such cases, we offer terminology checking and proofreading of the texts,” adds Petr Schnepp, Sales Manager at STAR Czech.

As part of the fair programme, two workshops on effective localisation of technical documentation into other languages also took place. “We were very glad to see great interest in our workshops from export companies, as well as increasing interest in translation into Asian languages, which is regularly carried out by STAR for a number of customers,” says Mr Jankovics, who was also running the workshops. “We are planning to organise regular workshops in the future in the training room at our office because of great interest in efficient, optimised creation and translation of manuals.”

In connection with the engineering fair, STAR Czech is starting up a special campaign in which every 10th standard page of text will be translated free of charge for new customers who order their translation services between 4th and 18th October 2010. “We know that not everyone had the opportunity to visit us at the fair, and therefore we are not limiting the campaign fair visitors alone. We will translate every tenth page of standard text for free for all new customers ordering translations during this period via our sales department”, clarifies Mr Jankovics. “If a customer would like a discount, they must send us, together with the order, an electronic voucher which can be downloaded from the www.star-transit.cz website,“ he adds.
